Unlocking New Intellectual Worlds
The Power of People Who Expand Your Thinking
A while back, I had a conversation with my daughter about designing in Canva.
At first, it was just about creating a city. I showed her the basics—how to use the tool, move elements around, and bring ideas to life. That’s all she needed. She took off running.
Her natural strengths in design, planning, and details merged with the right tool, and soon she was creating far beyond a simple city. She built a hospital, a movie theater, and even a house—complete with a coffee table, a cup of coffee, and a newspaper.
Then I casually suggested, “What if you designed a farm with all the animals?” Her eyes lit up.
In that moment, I realized something powerful: Deep thinking & creativity flourish when we are surrounded by the right people—people who see our strengths, provide tools for growth, and unlock doors we didn’t even know were there.
The Power of the Right Environment
Deep and wide thinking doesn’t happen in isolation.
We need people who push us, challenge us, and introduce us to new ways of seeing. My simple suggestion was like handing my daughter a key to a locked door. She took it, turned the knob, and suddenly, a whole new world was in front of her. A Narnia moment.
We all need these moments.
When we surround ourselves with people who think deeply, ask great questions, and see potential in us that we might not see in ourselves, we step onto a new playing field. These people don’t just encourage us—they challenge us, stretch our imagination, and take our thinking to places we never expected.
The Gold Mine of Creative and Imaginative Spaces
The best environments are the ones where creativity and curiosity thrive. Where fun and friendship are in the driver’s seat. Where learning isn’t just about acquiring knowledge but about unlocking possibilities.
As Edmund Lee put it:
"Surround yourself with the dreamers and the doers, the believers and the thinkers, but most of all, surround yourself with those who see the greatness in you, even when you don’t see it yourself."
If you want to think deep and wide, don’t do it alone. Find the people who unlock doors for you. And just as importantly—be that person for someone else.

Nice post. I think of people who push us as intellectual sparring partners, I think this post by Sahil bloom might be of use to you: https://www.sahilbloom.com/newsletter/intellectual-sparring-partners
